I've always thought he was a bit overrated as a player, doubt he's anything more than a #6 d-man at best right now. |

He was a very good shutdown guy until the injury bug got him the past few seasons. |

You're not wrong.
Edler is still a 2/3 guy on a legit team. Only reason why he's offered up so much is that the team really needs a top 6 forward..Garrison and Hamhuis are BC boys, Bieksa is a leader for the team, and Edler was already rumoured in trade talks at the draft. Stanton was a great WW pickup, he's a rock solid #6 guy. Plus Tanev is ready to become a full time 2nd pairing d-man and Corrado is in the AHL and should be read for the NHL next year. Edler isn't exactly a cap dump, he has trade value.
According to BehindTheNet, Edler is also constantly matched up against other top forwards and also has been lucky with his on-ice shooting percentage at even strength and the PP, which explains the +/- and lack of point production.

I think edler is a top 2/3 on a bubble team and a top 4 on a playoff contending type team .... Leave the big minutes and shutdown role to someone more capable and give edler pp and softer minutes and he will produce good numbers .... With the guys on the Canucks back bed not sure why torts has been trying to make edler a top pairing guy ... Just let him do what he is good at

I agree, he was better under AV when Hamhuis/Garrison were playing the tougher minutes and his minutes weren't always the highest every night, it was a committee approach. He was a 2/3 guy on the Canucks team that won 2 President's trophies and went to game 7 of the SCF so I'll agree to disagree with you that he's a #4 guy on a legit contender. |

the headline says gleason could be moved before friday as if a new development had occured.

I guess he may have played some top pairing minutes during that stretch but I think that he is better suited as a 3/4 guy ... He's obviously better than a 5/6 but just not quite there as a top 2 guy ... I better get outta here before Fosco gets wind of this |

Dont mind the Steen contract, 3 years at 5.8 is liveable. IF he never produces like this again, its not unmovable contract either. |

That's an excellent deal. Steen is a good 2nd line, fringe 1st liner. He got slightly more than Clarkson and with the cap going up he could have cashed in. Props to St. Louis |

I thought he was going to get 6.5, so to get him below 6 on a 3 year deal is great for St Louis. Left money on the table compared to if he went to Free Agency.
If they dont win it this year, they now have a lot more wiggle room to add someone like Miller or another impact Free Agent. |

Very good deal IMO. Cap going up and it's only 3 years. He's due to regress a bit offensively but he's a legit top 6 player and a very good puck possession player on one of the best teams in the league.
His career averages in St.Louis since 2009/2010(82 game pace):
28.5 Goals
32 assists
60.5 Points

Yeah, they're definitely in position to sign Miller. That team is gonna be scary if they get Miller. |

D is already set, maybe some minor 3rd pairing, 7th man upgrades for the playoff run.
Forward depth is great, and if the add Miller during the offseason and I think probably would have room to upgrade the Morrow and Roy type signings.
Team is built to win it in at least in the next 2 years unless the self destruct.
Edit: I can see guys liek Cammalleri or Gaborik signing there during the offseason at cheap 1 year deals for the chance to win it now (Hossa in Detroit) |

5.25 for clarkson and they got 5.8 for Steen? Someone please firebomb the ACC (when no fans are inside...). |

My thoughts exactly. Market was set when Clarkson signed that. They are the same age, and have a similar PPG, good possesion players ( Clarkson was good on NJ). And well Steen is just better all around probably. The fact that they got him signed for 775k more and 4 years less. Wow.
Helps he clearly wanted to stay in St. Louis too. |

Steen has been underrated for years. The production was hurt by injuries, but his overall value to the Blues went beyond goals and assists. Great deal for StL |
